Job Description
- Carry out mechanical fitting, maintenance, and repair works on marine vessels and shipyard equipment, following Work Packs and Job Tickets.
- Inspect, test, troubleshoot, and service marine mechanical systems including engines, pumps, valves, and auxiliary equipment.
- Perform dismantling, repair, replacement, and reassembly of shipboard machinery and mechanical components.
- Remove, install, and align shaft lines, propeller shafts, bearings, and associated marine components, ensuring accurate measurement and documentation.
- Isolate, disconnect, remove, and reinstall on-board mechanical systems, including piping, valves, pumps, and hydraulic systems.
- Conduct precision measurements and alignment checks using appropriate tools and instruments.
- Perform machining tasks such as turning, milling, grinding, drilling, and fitting to support repair and refurbishment activities.
- Carry out valve overhaul, pressure testing, and servicing across a range of marine valve types.
- Assist in fabrication, metal fitting, and basic welding works as required in ship repair operations.
- Support dry dock and afloat maintenance activities, ensuring compliance with marine engineering standards.
- Record all measurements, inspection results, and work performed in accordance with shipyard documentation procedures.
- Ensure all work is completed within agreed timeframes and report delays or issues to Supervisors promptly.
- Maintain tools, lifting equipment, and work areas in a safe, clean, and operational condition.
- Follow all Work Health and Safety (WHS) procedures, permit systems, and shipyard safety regulations at all times.
Job Qualifications
- A minimum of 5 year(s) of working experience is required.
- Candidates must be at least a graduate of a four-year undergraduate course.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in shipyard, marine repair, shipbuilding, offshore, or heavy industrial environments.
- TRA Skills Assessment (Fitter General) or Australian Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade is an advantage.
- Trade background as Mechanical Fitter, Fitter & Turner, Marine Fitter, Diesel Fitter, or Pipe Fitter.
- Proven experience in marine mechanical systems, including engines, pumps, valves, and shaft line components.
- Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings, mechanical diagrams, and marine specifications.
- Experience in shaft alignment, installation, and measurement is highly preferred.
- Hands-on experience in equipment dismantling, overhaul, and reinstallation.
- Experience in valve overhaul and pressure testing.
- Basic skills in machining, fabrication, and welding.
- Knowledge of marine safety standards, WHS requirements, and shipyard work practices.
- Must have completed at least a 1-year vocational course or at least 1 year in college.
- Physically fit and capable of working in confined spaces, heights, and demanding shipyard environments.
- Reliable, detail-oriented, and able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Must have a valid Driver’s License.
