Job Description
- Perform high-quality welding works on mining equipment, structural steel, and piping systems in accordance with approved welding procedures.
- Execute welding using processes such as FCAW (Flux-Cored Arc Welding), GTAW (TIG), and SMAW (Stick) to required codes and standards.
- Ensure all work is completed within required timeframes and report any issues or delays promptly
- Perform welding on pipes, plates, and structural steel including positional welding (e.g., 3G, 4G, 6G as required).
- Read and interpret technical drawings, isometric piping drawings, welding symbols, and specifications.
- Conduct fabrication, repair, and modification of structural, mechanical, and piping components.
- Perform equipment, pipeline, and structural repairs during shutdowns, breakdowns, and maintenance activities.
- Prepare materials by cutting, grinding, beveling, aligning, and fitting prior to welding.
- Ensure all welds meet quality standards, inspection requirements, and tolerances.
- Perform visual inspection of welds and assist in NDT testing (RT, UT, MT, PT) when required.
- Maintain welding equipment, tools, and consumables in good working condition.
- Follow all Work Health and Safety (WHS) and mining site safety procedures at all times.
- Work collaboratively with fitters, pipefitters, and supervisors to meet project deadlines.
Job Qualifications
- A minimum of 5 year(s) of working experience is required.
- Candidates must be at least a graduate of a four-year undergraduate course.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Coded Welder in mining, oil & gas, or heavy industrial environments.
- TRA Skills Assessment (Welder) or Australian Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade is an advantage.
- Must hold valid welding certifications (coded welder) aligned with international standards (e.g., AS/NZS, AWS, ISO).
- Proven experience in pipe welding (6G preferred) including carbon steel and stainless-steel piping systems.
- Proficient in FCAW (3G & 4G), GTAW (6G), and SMAW (3G, 4G & 6G) welding processes.
- Strong experience in structural steel, piping, and heavy equipment welding
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, isometric piping drawings, and WPS/PQR.
- Knowledge of fit-up, alignment, and weld preparation for piping systems.
- Experience working with carbon steel, stainless steel, and alloy materials.
- Knowledge of NDT requirements and weld inspection processes is an advantage.
- Must have a valid Driver’s License
- Physically fit and capable of working in remote mining environments, including long shifts and demanding conditions.
- Willing to work on a roster/rotation schedule (FIFO).
