Job Description
- studying blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine job requirements
- selecting, cleaning and preparing metal stock
- cutting marked-out metal sections and shapes using hand tools, flame cutting torches and metal cutting machines
- shaping and bending metal sections and pipes using hand and machine tools, and by heating and hammering
- aligning parts to be joined using hand tools and measuring instruments
- joining metal sections using various welding techniques, bolting and riveting
- examining welds for width of bead, penetration and precision
- finishing products by cleaning, polishing, filing and bathing in acidic solutions
- cleaning and smoothing welds by filing, chiselling and grinding
Job Qualifications
- A minimum of 5 year(s) of working experience is required.
- Candidates must be at least a high school graduate.
- Minimum of 5 years proven experience as HEAVY FABRICATOR/WELDER
- Must have experience in RIGGING and STRUCTURAL STEEL BUILDING.
- Able to interpret fabrication drawings
- Able to interpret welding symbols and weld preparation details
- Experienced and competent with hand and power tools
- Understand the different grades and profiles of material used in steel structures
- Understand, and be able to follow weld procedure specifications (WPS)
- Able to weld to a high standard and consistently aim to improve welding skills
- Able to work alone or with a team and be able to communicate well in English
- Proficient with the use of tools required to erect steel structures
