Job Description
- Perform concrete surface preparation, repair, leveling, grinding, honing, sealing, and polishing in accordance with project specifications and finish standards
- Operate and maintain concrete grinding and polishing equipment, including handheld grinders, edge grinders, large upright planetary grinders, and remote-control machines.
- Apply concrete treatments and coatings including epoxy systems, polyurethane coatings, flake floors, penetrating sealers, densifiers, and curing compounds.
- Identify surface defects such as cracks, pinholes, unevenness, or scratches and carry out corrective works to achieve required finishes.
- Select and use appropriate diamond and resin tooling based on concrete hardness and required finish levels.
- Carry out concrete repairs including patching, crack repairs, joint filling, skim coating, and edge detailing.
- Assist in flooring removal and demolition works including removal of tiles, vinyl, carpet, timber flooring, screeds, and adhesives using jackhammers and hand tools.
- Perform subfloor preparation ensuring surfaces are level, clean, and structurally sound prior to polishing or coating applications
- Operate dust extraction, vacuum, and control systems to maintain a safe and clean work environment
- Drive company vehicles, vans, and tow trailers to transport tools, machinery, generators, and materials to job sites.
- Load, unload, set up, and dismantle machinery and equipment on site.
- Maintain tools, machinery, equipment, and vehicles in clean, safe, and serviceable condition.
- Read and interpret construction drawings, plans, and job instructions.
- Follow company procedures, site safety requirements, quality standards, and environmental guidelines.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, and clients.
- Work independently or under supervision depending on site and project requirements.
Job Qualifications
- A minimum of 3 year(s) of working experience is required.
- Candidates must be a Vocational Diploma / Short Course Certificate holder in Others or similar fields.
- Must have completed at least a 1 year vocational course or at least 1 year of college.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in concrete grinding, polishing, surface preparation, or related construction work.
- Strong understanding of concrete finishing processes including grinding, honing, polishing, sealing, and coating applications.
- Experience with diamond and resin tooling selection for hard and soft concrete (advantage).
- Experience operating planetary grinders (e.g., Husqvarna PG680 or similar).
- Familiarity with epoxy flooring systems, sealers, densifiers, and decorative concrete finishes.
- Experience in flooring removal, demolition, and general construction laboring.
- Ability to safely operate power tools and construction equipment including grinders, jackhammers, drills, and vacuums.
- Valid manual driver’s license (required).
- Ability to tow trailers and drive vans or small trucks.
- Excellent English communication skills (spoken, reading, and writing).
- Physically fit, hardworking, reliable, and safety conscious.
- Knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) standards and safe work practices.
- Strong teamwork, problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail.
