Job Description
- Operate excavators safely and efficiently for scrap metal handling, loading, and site material movement.
- Perform excavation, trenching, backfilling, leveling, and grading tasks as required on industrial or project sites.
- Handle and sort scrap metal materials (ferrous and non-ferrous) based on type, size, and disposal or recycling requirements.
- Use excavator attachments such as grapple, bucket, magnet, and shear/breaker for lifting, segregating, and feeding scrap materials into processing areas.
- Load scrap metals into trucks, bins, or stockpiles while ensuring proper weight distribution and safe lifting practices.
- Assist in feeding scraps into shredders, balers, crushers, or cutting areas under supervisor instructions.
- Conduct daily equipment inspections including checks on hydraulic systems, engine oil, tracks, pins, lights, alarms, and safety controls.
- Report mechanical issues, unusual sounds, leaks, or operational concerns immediately to Supervisors or Mechanics.
- Follow site traffic management plans, spotter signals, and lifting safety protocols to prevent accidents and damage.
- Maintain clean and orderly work areas, ensuring safe stacking and segregation of scrap materials.
- Ensure all tasks are completed within designated timeframes; if delays arise, notify Supervisors or Managers immediately
- Follow all safety procedures, workplace instructions, and operational standards at all times.
Job Qualifications
- A minimum of 5 year(s) of working experience is required.
- Candidates must be a Vocational Diploma / Short Course Certificate holder in Others or similar fields.
- Preferably with experience operating excavators in scrap yards, recycling facilities, demolition sites, or heavy industrial environments.
- Proven experience in scrap metal handling, sorting, and loading operations using excavator machinery.
- Skilled in operating excavators with attachments such as grapple, magnet, bucket, and shear/breaker.
- Strong understanding of safe excavation practices and industrial yard safety procedures.
- Knowledgeable in daily pre-start inspections, basic troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance practices.
- Ability to follow work instructions, hand signals, and site safety rules, including working with spotters.
- Physically fit and capable of working in outdoor environments and fast-paced industrial conditions.
- Knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety requirements and safe work practices.
- Must have a valid Driver’s License.
- Must be at least a graduate of a 1-year vocational course or have completed at least 1 year in college.
