Job Description
- The Press Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining hydraulic scrap metal balers and presses to process and compact scrap materials efficiently and safely
- The role ensures that production targets are met while complying with Australian workplace health and safety standards and environmental regulations.
- Operate hydraulic scrap balers, shears, and presses to process metal according to production requirements.
- Load and unload scrap materials using mobile equipment such as forklifts, loaders, or excavators.
- Monitor machine operation, pressure gauges, and control panels to ensure optimal performance.
- Adjust machine settings and controls for different types of metal (ferrous and non-ferrous).
- Perform routine inspections, cleaning, and maintenance of the press machine and hydraulic systems.
- Report mechanical issues or breakdowns to maintenance or supervisors promptly.
- Ensure processed bales meet weight, size, and quality specifications.
- Follow all workplace health and safety (WHS) and environmental policies.
- Maintain accurate records of production volumes and daily machine operation logs.
- Assist with general yard duties when required, including sorting, cutting, or stacking scrap materials.
- Collaborate with maintenance and production teams to minimize downtime and improve efficiency.
Job Qualifications
- A minimum of 5 year(s) of working experience is required.
- Candidates must be at least a high school graduate.
- 3 YRS OF CONTRACT, 8 HRS A DAY / 6 DAYS A WEEK
Additional Information
- Previous experience as a Press Operator or in scrap metal/recycling operations preferred.
- Knowledge of hydraulic press and baler operation and maintenance.
- Ability to read and follow work instructions and safety guidelines.
- Forklift or loader operation license (highly regarded).
- Mechanical aptitude and basic troubleshooting skills.
- Good physical fitness and awareness of safety in an industrial environment. Ability to work in a team and adapt to changing workloads.
