Job Description
- Joining metal parts of a ship's hull, deck, and other structures using various welding processes like shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), and gas metal arc welding (GMAW).
- Reading and understanding technical drawings and specifications to ensure accurate assembly and welding of components.
- Cutting, grinding, and preparing metal stock for welding, ensuring proper fit and alignment.
- Inspecting welds for defects, ensuring they meet required standards and can withstand the harsh marine environment.
- Potentially working in confined spaces, elevated areas, or even underwater, depending on the specific tasks.
- Fabricates and repairs metal structures for ships, boats, and other maritime vessels.
- Welding damaged or worn-out parts, ensuring the structural integrity of the vessel.
Job Qualifications
- A minimum of 2 year(s) of working experience is required.
- Candidates must be a Vocational Diploma / Short Course Certificate holder in Engineering(Others) or similar fields.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications accurately.
- Understanding of different metals and their properties.
- Ability to identify and resolve welding and fabrication issues.
- Ability to work in various positions and handle tools and equipment.
- Strong commitment to safety protocols and practices.
- Ability to work effectively with other welders, shipfitters, and other tradesmen.
