Job Description
- Sewing and stitching fabric pieces together to create garments according to specific patterns, designs, and designer specifications.
- Utilizing a variety of sewing techniques, including hand stitching and machine sewing (domestic and industrial machines like sergers and embroidery machines).
- Ensuring precise execution of design details and high-quality standards in every stitch.
- Performing alterations on existing garments to modify their fit, style, or functionality based on client preferences or needs (e.g., hemming, taking in/letting out seams, replacing zippers/buttons, repairing tears).
- Interpreting design sketches and technical instructions to understand garment construction.
- Making pattern adjustments to ensure accurate fitting and construction of garments. While a patternmaker typically creates the initial pattern, a fashion seamstress often needs to work with and modify existing patterns.
Job Qualifications
- A minimum of 5 year(s) of working experience is required.
- Candidates must be at least a high school graduate.
- With at least 5 years of proven working experience as a Seamstress, Tailor or Garment Technician in the Fashion Industry.
- Experience with luxury, couture, high-end fashion brands and bridal garment production is a plus.
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in Sewing, Tailoring and Dressmaking.
- Should have TESDA NCII or Trade Test Certificates in Dressmaking.
- Should be knowledgeable in international garment standards and production practices.
- Should be an expert in garment creation, sewing a variety of garment types (e.g. dresses, suits, outerwear, etc.) and fabrics (e.g. silk, denim, knits, etc.).
- Must possess advanced skills in hand-sewing, machine sewing and garment finishing techniques.
- Should be proficient in operating industrial sewing machines, overlockers and other specialized sewing equipment.
- Must have the ability to read and interpret technical patterns, sketches and tech packs.
- Must be competent in measuring customers, following patterns, cutting fabric and sewing garments from scratch.
- Should be competent in garment alterations, making adjustments to garments for a better fit, including hemming, taking in or letting out seams and adjusting collars.
- Must be knowledgeable in repairs, mending tears, replacing buttons and other repairs.
- Should have meticulous attention to detail to ensure precision in stitching, seams and finishing.
- Must have the ability to replicate intricate designs and meet high-quality standards.
- Should have basic math skills for measurements & calculations.
- Must have the ability to maintain professional standards under pressure.
- Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Should have a strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality craftmanship.
- Should be proficient in English (verbal & written) communication to collaborate with the design
