Job Description
- Responsible for overseeing and optimizing all aspects of welding processes within a pipe manufacturing facility;
- Ensuring the quality and integrity of welded pipe joints by developing and implementing welding procedures;
- Managing welding equipment, training welders, and adhering to industry standards and codes, all while focusing on maximizing production efficiency and minimizing defects in the pipe manufacturing process
- Creating detailed welding procedures for various pipe sizes, materials, and welding techniques, including specifications for heat input, welding parameters, and quality control checks;
- Performing and overseeing welder qualification tests (WQT) to ensure welders meet required skill levels and standards;
- Analyzing welding data to identify areas for improvement, such as optimizing welding speeds, filler material selection, and joint design to enhance productivity and quality
- mplementing thorough inspection methods like visual inspection, non-destructive testing (NDT) (e.g., radiography, ultrasonic testing) to identify and address welding defects;
- Maintaining and calibrating welding equipment, including power sources, wire feeders, and welding torches;
- Providing technical guidance to production teams regarding welding issues, troubleshooting complex welding problems, and recommending corrective actions.
- Evaluating the suitability of different pipe materials and filler metals for specific welding applications
- Enforcing safety protocols related to welding operations, including proper personal protective equipment (PPE) usage and hazard identification.
- Conducting welding training programs for new and existing welders, covering best practices, safety procedures, and new welding techniques
- Collaborating with engineering teams on new pipe designs, identifying potential welding challenges, and proposing solutions to optimize the manufacturing process.
Job Qualifications
- A minimum of 5 year(s) of working experience is required.
- Candidates must be a Bachelor's / College Degree holder in Engineering(Mechanical); Engineering(Metal Fabrication/Tool & Die/Welding); Engineering(Metallurgical) or similar fields.
- Male applicants are preferred for this role.
- With experience in the Line Pipe Manufacturing Industry or Similar Industry
- Holding Quality Management System Lead or Internal Auditor Certification
- Familiarity with Quality Management System, quality control of products, capable in applying statistical quality techniques, familiar with QC testing, welding familiar with nondestructive testing
- Well Familiar with ASME, I, II, V, & IX, API 5L, 2B, AWS D1.1 ETC. ;Knowledge related to API Q1, 5L, 2B, EMS OSHAS, welding ASME Sec II, V & IX etc.
- Preferred Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) and Non Destructive (NDT) Level II
- 5 years’ experience in different welding processes mainly in SMAW, GMAW & SAW process of different materials in line pipe mill or similar industry; NDT techniques
- In-depth knowledge of various welding processes (MIG, TIG, submerged arc welding); with Welding Certificate (CSWIP, CWI or Equivalent)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities; Well familiar with setting parameters of different sizes and troubleshooting of welding issues and defects;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with different departments
