ASSISTANT LANGUAGE

TEACHERS (ALT’S) FOR JAPAN

HAVE A VERY REWARDING, POTENTIALLY LONG-TERM, ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING EXPERIENCE WITH INTERAC - JAPAN’S LEADING ENGLISH LANGUAGE TRAINING PROVIDER

THE COMPENSATION PACKAGE ON OFFER IS EXACTLY THE SAME AS THAT PROVIDED TO NATIVE ENGLISH SPEAKING LANGUAGE TEACHERS RECRUITED FROM THE WEST

We are continuously recruiting, all year round, for

ASSISTANT LANGUAGE TEACHERS

APPLICATIONS ARE NOW BEING ACCEPTED FROM EXPERIENCED ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHERS FOR VARIOUS DEPARTURE DATES THROUGHOUT THE 2018 JAPANESE ACADEMIC SCHOOL YEAR

FOR YOUR APPLICATION TO BE ACTED UPON, YOU MUST POSSESS A PHILIPPINE NON-PROFESSIONAL DRIVING LICENSE, OR BE VERY CLOSE TO ACCOMPLISHING THIS

INTERAC CO. LTD., a Japanese company founded in 1972, is committed to providing excellence in the fields of school, business, language and cross-cultural training. With a proven ability to attract talented people from around the world, Interac constantly strives to enhance its position as Japan's foremost language and management training organization.

Interac has fifteen domestic office locations and two overseas offices, serving a client base of more than 4,000 organizations. Approximately 300 administrative staff are complemented by a rapidly-growing population of over 2,700 Assistant Language Teachers (ALT’s) and corporate Language Consultants (LC’s) for English and other languages.

Interac is Japan’s leading private provider of ALT’s. Its highly motivated and qualified teachers serve thousands of schools and boards of education throughout every region of Japan, working with children from kindergarten, through to high school.

Chesham Recruitment Inc. is very proud to be Interac’s exclusive recruitment agency in the Philippines and we were instrumental, with our colleagues in Interac, in opening up this fantastic opportunity for Philippine ALT’s. We have already placed a large number of first-rate Philippine ALT’s in Japan and Interac has been very pleased with the high level of professionalism and competence which they have demonstrated. To date, all Philippine ALT’s who have successfully completed a Contract of Employment have been offered and have accepted a further Contract.

This is a very rewarding and life-changing, potential long term opportunity and the ALT’s placed by Chesham, as well as being great teachers, are also excellent ambassadors for their country.

PLEASE NOTE THAT SUCCESSFUL ALT’S POSSESS THREE ESSENTIAL COMPETENCIES:

THE ABILITY TO TEACH ENGLISH IN HIGH SCHOOL, INCLUDING TEACHING GRAMMAR AT THAT STANDARD

THE ABILITY TO TEACH ENGLISH WITH A NEUTRALIZED ACCENT OR BE WILLING TO UNDERGO ACCENT NEUTRALIZATION TRAINING, IF DEEMED REQUIRED BY CHESHAM

THE POSSESSION OF A PHILIPPINE NON-PROFESSIONAL DRIVING LICENSE AND BEING A CONFIDENT AND COMPETENT DRIVER OF A CAR

STRICT MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS AND INFORMATION TO BE PROVIDED:

Applicants must:

* Hold a BA/BSc, or equivalent, in the education field, with emphasis on English, from a recognized university. Applicants with relevant English language teaching experience, who hold a Diploma in journalism, theater arts, communications, psychology or sociology may also be considered. Unfortunately, other Diploma holders cannot be considered, despite having alternative English language teaching certification and relevant English language teaching experience. Restrictions apply in relation to the granting of the required ‘Instructor’ visa by the Japanese immigration authorities, for candidates departing from the Philippines.

* Have a minimum of at least one year of recent English language teaching experience, ideally involving Japanese students, or at least involving foreign students. Preferably also have some High school or Elementary school English teaching experience in a classroom setting, although online experience and one-on-one experience is also valued.

* Be living in the Philippines at the time of application. Overseas-based applicants cannot be entertained, due to the intense nature of the evaluation process.

* Be an outstandingly fluent speaker of English, with excellent grammar, pronunciation, projection and diction. Candidates must speak with a neutralized accent, as locally accented spoken English is absolutely not acceptable.

* Be able to commit to a full academic year contract, but also be flexible in relation to a shorter initial contract term and in relation to varying departure dates during an academic year.

* Have a good awareness and knowledge of Japan and be interested in Japanese culture and the Japanese language.

* Like children and be willing to work as an Assistant Language Teacher, with the ego suppression, patience, resilience, adaptability, flexibility, energy and humility that this role will require.

* Be flexible, with regards to location, school type (Elementary School, Junior High School and High School) and the number of schools to be assigned.

* Be flexible regarding the location of your teaching assignment. If you or your family have any concerns about you being located in areas affected by the Japanese earthquake and tsunami several years ago, or in areas prone to earthquake activity, please do not apply for this ALT position, as no choice or preference will be given to any candidate regarding any assignment location.

* Be very professional, in all aspects of manners, decorum, written and spoken communications and behavior.

* Have a very clear appreciation of the importance of punctuality.

* Be positive, resilient, flexible and totally open to change, energetic, friendly, cheerful, adaptable, inquisitive, cooperative and humble.

* Present a very business-like appearance and demonstrate professional dress sense and impeccable grooming.

* Be in excellent health and be very fit. Significantly overweight candidates cannot be considered. A pre-employment medical examination will be required, with the priority being placed on the clear evidence of the non-existence of TB, or its history, irrespective of its current status.

* Possess Japanese language ability, or commit to acquiring basic Japanese language skills before departure to Japan, as a pre-requisite of your application. This is required in order to enhance your communication ability and to assist you in more easily adapting to living in Japan.

Evidence of having successfully completed a Japanese language class-based course, or having completed an online course, or having completed some clearly defined and measurable self-study program must be presented to Chesham, before departure.

This will either be in the form of a certificate of successful course completion or in the form of a statement signed by you, summarizing what has been achieved. No ALT will be deployed to Japan, without presenting such evidence.

* The possession of a Philippine non-professional driving license and being a competent and confident driver are mandatory Interac requirements.

You must have possessed a Philippine driving license for at least three months prior to departure to Japan and you must also have resided for a minimum of three months in the Philippines after securing your driving license, in order to be able to eventually secure a Japanese driving license.

An international driving permit (IDP) will also be needed, but this must only be acquired just before departure, as it is valid for only one year from the date of issuance.

You must have acquired appropriate driving experience, before you depart for Japan, including driving in heavy city traffic conditions and driving on highways, unaccompanied. Possessing a driving license is not in itself sufficient. You must be a competent and confident driver, prior to departure, to ensure your safety and that of others and you will need to sign a formatted statement to this effect, as a condition of your departure. You need to be honest with yourself and Chesham regarding your driving competency and not gloss over your driving inadequacies, as this will have serious consequences regarding your continuing employment in Japan.

IN ADDITION TO MEETING THE STRICT MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS LISTED ABOVE, THE FOLLOWING WILL ALSO BE CONSIDERED POSITIVELY, BUT ARE NOT ACTUALLY REQUIRED:

* Have English language teaching experience in Japan, or in another international setting.

* Hold a TESOL, TEFL, RSA or CELTA certification.

* Hold a ‘professional teacher’ license.
