Major Duties and Responsibilities :

• The above primary purpose is realized by undertaking the following functions on each of the separate telecom media detailed above .

Preventive maintenance

Fault Attendance

Testing of spares received

Budgetary preparation for new Tenders

Preparation of specification for new systems / equipment

Supervision of contractors’ work on Telecom systems

Supervision of activities of Engineers & Technicians on a regular basis

• As each of the media utilized for achieving the primary purpose is completely different technically, the activities for each type of equipment differ. Brief description of activities and duties with respect to separate systems are provided below.

1- Power Line Carrier Equipment (PLC)

Here the duties include routine maintenance of analogue equipment using selective level meter and selective level oscillator to check various levels of AF, IF, & RF frequencies for both Transmitter and Receiver.

Data Analyzer is used for checking the BER of Data circuits. For digital PLC, similar tests are conducted using a PC and a

proprietary software.

2- Pilot / Telecom Cable

Here the duties include level measurements, Loop testing, Attenuation & Frequency response testing of various cable circuits.

3- Fiber Optic Equipment

The duties include testing of various parameters on both transmitter and receiver side of the optcal line equipment using Hand held Terminals. Also Power budget as well as attenuation are checked using optical time domain reflectometer as well as power meter.

4- MUX equipment and TMS ( Transmission Management System)

Here Alarms are monitored on a continuous basis using TMS comuter and analysed for specific faults. Fault studies are conducted using software tools to emulate hand held terminal such athat remote loop back, remote voltage measurements etc. are achieved. Digital Analyzers are used to measure BER on various links on a regular basis.

5. Telephone Exchanges.

Software tools are used to check various exchange parameters for both subscriber channels as well as 2 M bit/s

trunk channels.

5. Microwave equipment

Here Handheld Terminals are used to check various levels of microwave transmitter as well as receiver such as AGC. Also loop

testing is done to ensure BER of both Main channel and Protection channel are within specification.

5. Power Supply Systems and Tape Recorders

Routine maintenance activities are conducted on 48V battery chargers / Batteries, to check float / boast levels, Ampere hour capacity of batteries etc. On Tape Recorders regular maintenance checks are conducted.

• Tender Specifications :

Tender specifications are prepared for various telecom systems and equipment. Evaluation of quotations on technical basis as well as supervision of contractors’ work are also part of the responsibility of the above position.

• Preparation of annual budget, spare part lists as also evaluation of subordinates' work also falls under the purview of the job.

• Performs other related duties as needed upon request by the immediate supervisor.

• 24hrs On-call duty.

Qualification Requirements: (Minimum Requirements)

Education & Training (e.g. BS in Electrical Engineering, post-secondary secretarial training, etc) :

B. Sc. in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering Degree (Full Time course) from a recognized University.

Job Experience (e.g.: 5-year experience in the relevant field of work)

Minimum 7 years experience in the relevant field.

Training: Software and Hardware Training in Areas such as Energy Management System(NCC), Distribution Management System(DCC), Substation Control system, telecommunication and Network Management System, Teleprotection System, Digital and Analogue PLC System, Digital and Analogue Telephone Exchanges.

Nature of Supervision Received : (e.g. very close where supervision and instructions are continually provided in every step of the work/process and the outcome of the work is inspected/reviewed; or work is reviewed in conformance to established guidelines/procedures; or, operates under broad policy guidelines; etc.)

Reports to the Senior Telecommunication engineer.

Applicable Guidelines / Manuals Required :

Safety Rules and regulations, Grid Code, Equipment/System maintenance Manuals.

As-Built Drawings, Software manuals

International Standards.
