Job Description
- Identifying the early physical and behavioral signs of labor (nesting, restlessness, physical changes).
- Transitioning cows from the main herd to clean, dry, and individual maternity pens.
- Recognizing when a situation requires a veterinarian (e.g., breech births or uterine torsions).
- Keeping a level head when a birth becomes complicated or life-threatening.
Job Qualifications
- A minimum of 2 year(s) of working experience is required.
- Candidates must be at least a graduate of a four-year undergraduate course.
- With at least 2 years proven working experience in dairy cattle farm operations or breeding management.
- Must be a graduate of BS Agriculture major in Animal Science, Animal Husbandry or a close related field.
- Must be knowledgeable in breeding techniques and basic livestock veterinary management.
- Must be competent in performing artificial insemination and heat detection.
- Must be competent in monitoring gestation and manage the calving process.
- Must be competent in providing immediate care to newborns, including cleaning, feeding (colostrum management) and monitoring health conditions.
- Must be competent in monitoring daily health, identify signs of illness, administer medication and treat injuries.
- Must be knowledgeable in maintaining detailed records f insemination dates, calving dates, calf weight and overall herd health.
- Must be able to maintain a clean, hygienic and safe housing for animals to maintain high biosecurity standards.
