Network Engineer
Position Summary:
Network engineers are responsible for installing, maintaining and supporting computer communication networks within an organization or between organizations. Their goal is to ensure the smooth operation of communication networks in order to provide maximum performance and availability for their users, such as staff, clients and suppliers.
Network engineers may work internally as part of an organization's IT support team or externally as part of an IT networking consultancy firm working with a number of clients.
Nature and Scope of Position / Duties & Responsibilities:
Upgrades, installs and troubleshoots networks, networking hardware devices and software
Maintains inventory of equipment and parts as well as documentation of vendor activities
Develops and documents system standards for computer and network devices
Recommend and schedule repairs to the LAN/WAN
Common Skills for a Network Administrator Position:
Handles highly confidential information/material
Ability to communicate orally and written in a professional manner
Prior experience supporting, implementing and/or administering networks such as Microsoft Windows Active Directory
Works well both alone or in a team setting
Strong analytical skills
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required: :
I.Education Requirement:
Degree holder in Engineering
Preferred Certifications:
Microsoft Certified System Engineer (MCSE);
Microsoft Certified System Administrator (MCSA);
Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
Hands-on experience implementing and administrating network devices, setting and maintaining policies and rights/security within a Windows Server 2000/2003environment:
Firewalls
Cisco, HP, and Dell network switches
Cisco routers
Cisco VPN
Wireless Access Points
HP, Dell server platforms
Windows Server 2000/2003 Active Directory
Symantec Back-Up Exec software and related backup tape drive
Desktop and laptop installation and problem resolution in a Windows XP environment
Previous responsibility for providing customer support
Demonstrable level of competence including:
A thorough understanding of the OSI network model, Ethernet, and TCP/IP networking
A practical level of experience implementing and administrating common TCP/IP-based services, including DNS, DHCP, HTTP, FTP, SSH, SMTP, etc.
Working knowledge of common network monitoring and security utilities
Troubleshooting focused on determining hardware vs. software, hardware vs. firmware, software vs. operating system, network vs. application/systems, and patterned vs. non-repeatable problems
3+ years of network administration mandatory
Ability to prioritize and multitask
Willingness to learn new technologies and maintain industry knowledge
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Excellent customer presentation skills
Bachelor’s degree (preferably engineering related)
Current CCNA or CCNP strongly preferred
Ability to lift, carry, and move all components of PC workstations, servers, network equipment, peripherals, and other ancillary equipment
II.Experience Requirements:
Minimum of 8 -10 years of experience in managing Network.
