DIPLOMA OR EQUIVALENT ISSUED BY A RECOGNISED INSTITUTION IN MECHANICAL AND/OR AUTOMOTIVE ENGINEERING. ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS OR EXPERIENCE IN AUTOMOTIVE ELECTRICS AND HYDRAULIC WILL BE ADVANTAGEOUS.
EXPEREINCE:
AT LEAST 9 YEARS TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE IN A LARGE WORKSHOP SPECIALISING IN THE REPAIR AND MAINTENANCE OF SMALL, MEDIUM AND LARGE PETROL AND DIESEL POWERED ON AND OFF ROAD VEHICLES AND EQUIPMENT, 3 OF WHICH MUST HAVE BEEN IN A SENIOR SUPERVISORY POSITION.
Responsibilities:
To provide a hands on management role in respect of repair and maintenance of container handling equipment including overhaul and rebuild of major components and complete machines, and to plan and control the work of the staff under his control to ensure that operational and departmental priorities and requirements are met and to maintain the highest standards of work quality and throughput consistent with the availability of the resources under his control. Also to identify problem areas and advise his superiors accordingly.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Maintenance and repair of container handling equipment.
- Planning and controlling resources particularly the staff under his control
- Ensuring that work is performed to the highest standard consistent with resources, the time available and with operational requirements.
- Identifying problem areas, investigating and proposing solutions and obtaining management approval as required and implementation as appropriate.
- Ensuring that those under his control are utilised effectively to fulfil maintenance requirements and that priorities are properly set and met.
- Continuous review of materials and parts identification, utilization, and usage and advising management to ensure availability is maintained and that quality and economy are maximized. Also for planning future parts and materials requirements and advising management accordingly.
- Making proposals, investigation and implementation of projects to improve equipment operational efficiency and economy and maintain the highest possible availability for operations.
- Communicating effectively with subordinates and superiors as well as other department's staff to ensure that information relating to the repair and maintenance of equipment is available when required.
- Ensuring that full and complete records are maintained to facilitate planning and analysis.
- Ensuring that work is carried out safely and according to workshop, company and port rules and regulations.
- Any other duties or assignments as required from time to time by management.
