Harbour Pilot
Reporting to the Superintendent Supply the primary purpose of the role is to ensure the safe pilotage of all vessels within Luise Harbour; and to maintain a safe, orderly and efficient cargo handling port facility
Key elements of the role will include:
· Ensure the safe pilotage of all vessels within Luise Harbour.
· Ensure that the port facility is maintained in operational status at all times via daily inspections to observe that all fenders are in place, that there is adequate wharf lighting, correct stacking, cargo is secure and handled with care, and that a safe and clean working environment is maintained.
· Provide supervision over Port Services ensuring safe and orderly stevedoring, trucking, cargo working equipment, and consolidation in the port facility.
· Provide supervision over the control and movement of containers in the wharf environs.
· Actively maintain a liaison with Masters, Ships Officers, Cargo Planners, Shippers, Receivers, Shipping Companies, and complete all associated documentation and reporting functions.
· Assist with Customs clearances, accounts, quarantine, and the safe delivery of cargo to consignees.
· Provide advice to the Hydro-graphic Department of any changes to marine features and depths.
· Monitor and record the depth of water at the berth.
· Maintain the Pilot boat and all associated equipment including all marine lighting for the port.
· Ensure work-groups meet or exceed LihirSafe requirements through monitoring of on-job OH&S standards/performance, and follow-up on occupational health and safety issues.
The successful candidate will have:
· Certification as Master Grade 1
· A minimum of 10 years sea time on large coastal or overseas vessels.
· Attended the PNG Maritime College or equivalent and completed the following courses: Advanced Shipmasters Medical Course, Global Maritime Distress &Safety System, Advanced Fire-fighting, Handling Dangerous Materials, Ship Handling, and Survival Course.
· Strong supervisory skills in planning, organising and controlling personnel.
· Well-developed inter-personal, written and oral communication skills in English and Tok Pisin.
· A sound degree of computer competency.
· Must submit a Police Clearance Report
