Produces small batches or large quantities while ensuring products meet precise specifications. Primary Responsibilities (as levels escalate they include all previous responsibilities) Level 1 - Operate CNC and/or manual machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders to produce parts. - Review and understand electronic or written blueprints or specifications for a job. - Calculate where to cut or bore. - Shape steel, aluminum, titanium, plastic, silicon and other materials. - Understand how fast or slow workpiece is fed into machine. - Understand how much material will be removed. - Understand and manage the tools and materials for the job. - Understand the sequence of cutting and finishing operations. - Position workpiece on the drill press, lathe, or milling machine. - Monitor and control feed rate and speed. - Ensure workpiece is properly lubricated and/or cooled. - Regulate temperature of workpiece. - Detect problems by listening for specific sounds. - Adjust cutting speed to compensate for harmonic vibrations. - Monitor the accuracy of cuts. - Replace dull cutting tools. - Check accuracy of work against blueprints and specifications and complete manufacturing logs. - Produce large and small quantities of parts. - Understand how automated equipment will cut a part. - Understand cutting path. - Use manual and computer-controlled machinery. - Run jobs which have already been set-up and continue these product runs. - Communicate any and all problems clearly to managing and quality departments. - Perform basic machine maintenance. - Clean work area, tooling, facilities, and equipment. Level 2 - Machine soft jaws. - Perform basic setups. - Create and confirm basic programs (straight cuts, machining jaws). Level 3 - Machine and measure tight tolerance Oilfield type components. - Machine threaded parts. - Measure bores, grooves, intricate features, thread pitch/taper etc. - Use gages and gagemakers to determine conformance. - Modify basic programs in response to problems. Level 4 - Setup and first article intricate components which are typical to oilfield products or of similar difficulty with pre-existing set-ups and programs. - Modify programs in response to problems during manufacturing. - Create moderately complex programs and perform first article machining. - Operate tight tolerance machining jobs. - Troubleshoot machine alarms and malfunctions.
