To avoid encountering problems, take note of the following Qatari rules on women:

  • Customarily, Qatari women wear abaya and head cover called Hijab. But OFWs and other foreign workers don’t have to be in abaya but must dress modestly and unprovocative.  Lady’s shoulders, cleavage, midriff and knees must be fully covered.
  • Tip for OFW women:  Always carry a shawl. Either put it in your bag or car to be used for covering up if the need arise.
  • Unlike in Saudi Arabia, women in Qatar are allowed to drive. Beware of the wandering livestock animals and sandstorms though.  Road-related accidents in Qatar are high and these two are just among the reasons.
